VacuFresh FAQ:
Q: What is vacuum packing?
A: VacuFresh removes and keeps air out of the container preventing food exposure to air and moisture which causes food to spoil and deteriorate quickly.

Q: What are the benefits of vacuum packing?
A:
1.  We all know that fresh foods always taste better. Foods packed in VacuFresh stay fresh up to 5 times longer. Due to lack of air and moisture, moist foods don't dry out, dry foods don't turn mushy and crisp foods don't get soggy and stale.
2.  VacuFresh saves you time. Since vacuum packed foods stay fresh longer, you'll make fewer shopping trips. When you cook, you can prepare more and easily freeze your dishes for later enjoyment.
3.  VacuFresh saves you money. Since food lasts longer, you'll have less waste due to spoilage. Plus, you can buy in bulk and repackage for later consumption.

Q: What are the advantages of VacuFresh over ordinary vacuum bags?
A:
1.  It's far more convenient. Unlike ordinary vacuum bag system, there is no tedious set up and complicated operation.
2.  It's ready for you any time. The VacuFresh is designed for every day use in your kitchen; it is always ready at any moment and it does not take up any counter space.
3.  Containers are far easier to use than bags. You can pack and store just in seconds. Since the containers are stackable, they take up less space. Plus, you can simply microwave and serve.

Q: How much longer will vacuum packed food last?
A: Vacuum packed foods maintain their fresh taste, texture and appearance 3-5 times longer than foods stored conventionally. Actual results depend on the quality and freshness of the foods when vacuum packed; the fresher the foods are, the longer they will stay that way.

Q: How is vacuum packing different from canning?
A: In canning, high heat is used to sterilize food by killing microorganisms that cause spoilage making the food shelf-stable. Vacuum packing does not sterilize food; it simply eliminates air contact with foods. It slows deterioration and helps food stay fresh longer.

Q: What types of food can be vacuum packed?
A: Any food, solid or liquid, can be easily stored in the VacuFresh containers. There is no worry of crushing the food and there is no laborious preparation required.

Q: Can liquids be vacuum packed?
A: Yes, VacuFresh containers are ideal for packing and freezing soups, stews and sauces.

Q: Is it necessary to put vacuum packed food in the refrigerator?
A: Since vacuum packing does not kill the microorganisms that cause food decay, perishable foods packed in vacuum still need to be refrigerated. But vacuum packing slows down deterioration and helps food stay fresh longer than conventional storage.

Q: Why does meat packed in vacuum turn brown?
A: Red meat tends to turn a little brown naturally when packed in vacuum due to the lack of oxygen in the container. But the meat is perfectly safe to eat.

Q: Can FreshPack containers be put in the freezer?
A: Our containers are made of high quality material which is shatter resistant and freezer safe. They can also be used for reheating (not for cooking) food in microwave oven and can be washed in the dishwasher (normal cycle, no heated-dry).

Q: How do I defrost vacuum packed foods?
A: For all perishable foods, first unlock the vacuum seal of the lid, then put the container in the refrigerator to defrost.

Q: Are FreshPack containers microwave safe?
A: Our container bases are microwave safe for reheating food, but not for cooking. Remove lid first and do not put lid in microwave.

Q: Can VacuFresh be used on containers of other brands?
A: The VacuFresh air pump can be used with most vacuum canisters and containers. Our vacuum lid sealers can also be used to vacuum pack foods right in their original glass or metal containers.

Tips on Vacuum Packing :
  1. Packing raw meats and fish in storage bags
Before packing, it's recommended that you pre-freeze it for 1-2 hours for maximum juice and flavor retention. If pre-freezing is not practical, fold a paper towel and place it between meat or fish and zip lock to absorb any excess moisture during vacuuming.

  2. Packing cooked and baked foods
It's super easy to use a container; you don't have to worry about crushing your food. Food must be at least room temperature before vacuuming. If vacuum bags are used, pre-freeze individual portions until solid frozen before packing.

  3. Packing vegetables in freezer
Raw produce should not be vacuum-packed since they may give off gases when they are stored. The best way to store vegetables is to blanch them first by placing them in boiling water until they are partially cooked on the outside (1 -2 minutes for leafy greens and peas, 3-4 minutes for sliced squash, zucchini or broccoli, 5 minutes for carrots, 7 minutes for corn on the cob), but still crisp. Immerse blanched vegetables immediately in ice cold water to stop cooking and to retain color. Dry vegetables with paper towel and let them cool; then pre-freeze individual portions for 1-2 hours before vacuum packing in bags or containers for storage in freezer.

  4. Packing fruits in freezer
For soft fruits or berries, either use a vacuum container or pre-freeze individual portions for 1-2 hours before vacuum packing in bags.

  5. Packing soups or juices
Our containers are ideal for packing soups or juices. But if you plan to freeze them, don't fill it to the rim. Leave about an inch of space to allow for expansion as liquid freezes. If vacuum bags are used, pre-freeze individual portions in a pan until solid and then remove the frozen liquid slab and store it in a vacuum bag.

  6. Packing hard cheeses, snacks and dry foods
Always return (okay to use their original bags) and vacuum pack them in a container or bag after use. By keeping air and moisture out, your food stays fresh and crisp for a long time. Since insects and their larvae cannot survive in vacuum, you don't have to worry about getting bugs in your flour, cereal and dry goods.

  7. Packing coffee and tea
There is no better way to preserve their taste and freshness than vacuum packing (it's okay to leave them in their original bags) after each use. Since coffee tends to secrete oil in vacuum, put a napkin or coffee filter on top of coffee to catch the oil before getting into the vacuum container or bag.

  8. Packing powdery foods
Only fill the container up to about an inch from the rim and place a coffee filter or paper towel on top of the flour to prevent flour dust from coming into the vacuum seal of the lid.

  9. Packing non-Food items
Vacuum packing is ideal to protect items from oxidation, corrosion and moisture. Our storage vacuum bags are also ideal for packing clothing for travel and for seasonal storage; it not only saves space and makes it easier to organize, it also protects against moisture and insects.

  10. Visual vacuum indicator
When there is full vacuum in the container, the Vacuum Indicator sinks completely into the lid. If there is no vacuum, the Gage extends fully above the lid. To restore vacuum in the container, repeat the vacuuming steps.

  11. Reheating food in microwave oven
Our container bases are microwave-safe for reheating up to 8 minutes; but DO NOT use such containers for microwave cooking. Do not put lids in microwave. Foods packed in our storage bags can be re-heated using a microwave or by boiling in water.

  12. Marinating foods
Because vacuum causes the pores of the food to open, marinade can be absorbed in just 20 minutes or less. You can use any of the vacuum containers for marinating; it is even easier and will save you both time and money by using our motorized Instant Marinator and Tenderizer.

  13. Defrosting vacuum packaged foods
It is always advisable to thaw foods either in the refrigerator or microwave.Turn dial on lid to the OPEN position or by un-zipping the storage bag first to release vacuum first.

  14. Re-using storage bags
All storage bags are re-useable as long as the zip lock can seal air tight. However, do not reuse bags after storing raw meats, raw fish or oily foods. Also, discard bags that have been microwaved or boiled.
